Hope Academy

The Hope Academy: Summer Literacy Program was a six-week academic enrichment camp aimed to curtail the summer learning loss of children in elementary school (K-5). The program focused on improving or retaining individual reading level scores from end of year reading test results submitted from the school. The program worked to prepare scholars for the next school year with little regression in the area of reading. Scholars were given opportunities to enhance their reading skills through a variety of learning mediums; including STEM activities, arts & humanities, civic studies, and athletics. Scholars also participated in Learning Adventures throughout the city. Each adventure tailored to reinforce the literacy theme of the week.

Each scholar was assessed at the beginning of the program. That score was compared to scores obtained by their school. Scholars were tested again at the conclusion of the program to get an accurate measurement of their success. By the grace of God, and the aid super awesome and committed teachers. 96% of all our scholars completed the Summer Literacy Program at or above their reading level! We celebrated their accomplishments with a Superhero themed party and graduation ceremony. Thanks to the support of Covenant Children's Ministries and private donors, each scholar received a new backpack full of supplies and books for the coming school year.

The Hope Academy: Summer Literacy Program is the first of several Educational Outreaches to our community. In 2019, it is our prayer to extend the offering of opportunities to include After School tutoring for all grades, GED /adult education, job readiness courses, and microenterprise cohorts.
